Meet Ozzy & Frank

The Adventures of Ozzy and Frank began with two dogs, a pile of favorite toys, and a lot of imagination.

Ozzy, our playful and sweet husky, and Frank, our hilarious corgi with a HUGE personality, have always been full of character. Ozzy is our protector and cuddle bug, while Frank keeps everyone on their toes—convinced he’s the boss of everything.

Some of their very first stories were inspired by their own toys—including a wizard and a magic cactus they loved to play with. My husband and I would make up silly adventures about those toys, and the dogs would sit and listen as if they understood every word. Those small, joyful moments became the beginning of something bigger.

Both Ozzy and Frank love exploring—running through the forest, going on hikes, and discovering new places. Their playful, curious spirits helped shape the adventures they now go on in these stories.

I began writing this series when we had our first child, wanting to create something meaningful and magical to share. But before the first book was finished, we lost Ozzy unexpectedly. It was heartbreaking, and it took time before I could return to the story.

Now, this series continues in his memory. Every adventure is a way to honor the joy, love, and spirit he brought into our lives.

These books are for him—and for every family who believes in a little bit of magic, laughter, and love. 🐶✨

About the Author

Valerie Trent has been telling stories for as long as she can remember. As a little girl, she filled countless yellow legal pads with stories. Whenever someone asked what she wanted to be when she grew up, her answer was always the same: a writer.

She never stopped writing. As she grew older, stories turned to poetry, while her career eventually took her into the classroom. Valerie spent 12 years teaching and developing curriculum, combining creativity with her love of helping children learn.

Years later, two very special dogs named Ozzy and Frank inspired a new kind of story. Then Valerie became a mom, and the dream of becoming a published author took on a whole new meaning. She wanted to create something magical that she could share with her own children. The adventures she made up about Ozzy and Frank naturally began taking shape as rhyming children’s books. The stories seemed to flow, bringing together her lifelong love of writing, her experience with children, and her imagination in a way that felt meant to be.

Art had always been part of Valerie’s life, too. She grew up drawing and doodling, took art classes in school, and eventually fell in love with painting and the creative escape it provided. One day, she decided to paint a portrait of Ozzy and Frank and discovered a talent for capturing dogs on canvas. Soon, she began creating and selling custom paintings of other people’s beloved pets.

When it came time to bring The Wizard and the Magic Cactus to life, Valerie could already see Ozzy and Frank’s world vividly in her imagination. She wasn’t sure she could illustrate an entire children’s book herself, but she knew she wanted the words and artwork to come from the same creative vision. So she decided to give it a try—and surprised even herself with what she was able to create.

Today, Valerie is the author and illustrator of The Adventures of Ozzy & Frank, a children’s book series inspired by the personalities, humor, and adventures of her own beloved dogs. Drawing on her 12 years of experience as an educator and curriculum writer, she also plans to develop companion curriculum that brings the adventures beyond the page and creates meaningful learning experiences for children.

In many ways, it has brought her right back to where she started: a little girl with a yellow legal pad, dreaming of becoming a writer.
